UK sales of construction equipment recovered strongly in September, following a slowdown in August, according to the latest report from the UK Construction Equipment Data Exchange — a collaboration between the Construction Equipment Association (CEA) and Systematics International.
Retail sales of construction and earthmoving equipment were more than 13% higher in September compared with the same month last year. This rebound keeps sales for the first three quarters of 2025 around 8% ahead of 2024 levels for the same period. The figures remain in line with forecasts of modest growth for the second half of the year, with a single-digit increase in sales expected overall.
Telehandlers (for construction) continue to lead the market in growth, with sales up 15.1% in the first nine months of the year compared with 2024. Excavators also performed well, showing a 10% year-on-year increase, while Mini and Midi Excavators rose by 8% during the same period. These four product groups together account for between 85% and 90% of total equipment sales.
Wheeled Loaders, however, have been the weakest of the high-volume categories, with sales more than 10% lower than last year’s figures. Meanwhile, the lower-volume product categories — grouped as “Others” in the report — have shown steady improvement in recent months and are now only 4% below 2024 levels for the same period.
Overall, the September results mark a positive shift for the sector, suggesting that UK equipment demand remains resilient and on course for steady growth through to the end of the year.
