CEA COVID-19 Bulletin #5

As we come to the end of another tumultuous week of lockdown, self-isolation, social distancing and furloughs, we’ve brought you another round up of key COVID-19 information. Click here to view the latest bulletin. This week our Chief Executive, the Membership Manager and myself have been contacting CEA members. If we haven’t managed to speak to you directly yet please be patient – with around 150 calls to make it is taking a while. If you have an urgent problem let us know now.

Most notable news since bulletin #4 are the Chancellor’s, Rishi Sunak the CEA’s own MP, announcement to clarify the terms for the government backed business loans today. If any members are experiencing difficulties obtaining loans please let us know and we will feed this into the Treasury and BEIS. It is also worth lobbying your own Member of Parliament as many are fighting for their constituents rights to government aid during the pandemic.

After much lobbying by the CEA, BEIS have clarified the conditions of the Job Retention Scheme with regards to multi-furloughing of an individual employee,  allowing them to come back to work, after a minimum of three weeks, for a few days or weeks then return to being furloughed. We continue to lobby across departments  for a concession in the three week minimum furlough rule to allow for technicians to carryout urgent repairs or service to equipment in key services – e.g. NHS, energy, transport, waste and recycling.

Please remember to let us know if you have any specific problems relating to the COVID-19 virus or other issues. We are your organisation and here to help.
