Thwaites has opened its most significant factory extension in the company’s 88-year history. Completed on budget and on time after a 71-week build programme, the new 4,000 sqm facility is now in the final stages of commissioning and will be fully operational in early 2026. Constructed by regional award-winning contractor Interclass PLC, the project has remained closely engaged with the local community throughout the build. The expansion will increase production capacity by 15%, ensuring Thwaites can continue to meet the growing needs of hirers and contractors in the UK, Europe and worldwide. The factory has been fitted with 1,483 roof-mounted solar panels, providing up to 33% of the site’s future power needs and reducing reliance on fossil fuels, alongside 36 new EV charging points for employees and visitors.
Managing Director Simon Hill said, “We are delighted to announce the opening of this new facility and welcome the completion of the wider work around the factory. This investment will make the site an even better place to work, improve productivity and drive growth.” The wider site improvements include new concreted roadways to manage one-way traffic flows, additional operational and loading areas, refreshed parking for 248 employees, 99 new parking spaces for the factory and front office, and 60 covered motorcycle and cycle stands. The investment also delivers landscaped gardens, improved frontage, and a dedicated conservation area. The new building will bring the production and parts teams under one roof, reducing unnecessary movement between the two functions and supporting greater efficiency and productivity.
