Times Letter: US tariffs – from eight companies and representative bodies

0

The CEA has been working with CECE and AEM (in the USA) to seek a resolution to the ongoing punitive tariffs imposed by the US in response to the Boeing: Airbus WTO trade dispute. The tariffs affect certain types of earthmoving equipment and other products. I raised the issue again in the Automotive ETAG meeting this week (an HMG Expert Trade Advisory Group, consulting on free trade agreement negotiations). Dale and Paul are also continuing to push for action in their external meetings.

One of the hardest-hit industry sectors is Scotch Whisky. The Scotch Whisky Association has been active in fighting the tariffs and approached the CEA to be a signatory to an open letter to the Times. Today.

The text of the letter is below. Those of you with a subscription to the Times can follow this link https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/times-letters-heroes-forgotten-in-public-sector-pay-rises-cp9j58fbp

Sadly the Prime Minister did not raise the US tariff issue when he met Secretary of State Mike Pompeo yesterday in Downing Street.
