This very quick recovery, of a stolen mobile pump fitted with a CanTrack Asset, started with a ‘routine’ theft report to CanTrack’s operations room. The compact, portable pump, owned by a leading hire company, was stolen from the Barlborough area of Derbyshire.
CanTrack immediately assigned an experienced investigator to the case, who immediately set-off for Derby. During his short journey to Derby the compact, tough, self-contained Asset, hidden in the pump, went ‘live’ and reported its location as being on the edge of a park off Russell Street, Derby. The Asset unit was put into ‘recovery’ mode with its homing signal switched on.
Less than 3 hours after the initial theft report CanTrack’s investigator was in the area and sweeping for the homing signal. Within a matter of a few minutes a strong signal was detected and triangulated to the far corner of a traveler’s site near Russell Street.
Following standard procedure CanTrack’s investigator contact Derbyshire Police and asked for immediate assistance. By coincidence there was a Police Station on Cotton Lane at the rear of the traveler’s site and the investigator met four police officers there, within 5 minutes of his call. The group immediately set-off for the site and commenced a search. A strong signal was immediately located coming from a Vauxhall van parked at the far end of the site, adjacent to the park. The police officers opened the van and found the stolen pump and several other pieces of equipment and tools, which were also thought to be stolen. The police subsequently arranged the recovery of the van and its contents. Police investigations are on-going.
