Brazil’s new internet regulation is about to come into force and foreign firms will have to adapt to its norms with immediate effect. The new regulations will guarantee the protection of Brazilian citizens´ data online.
However, firms operating online, including British companies already operating in Brazil and those who plan to enter the market will have to amend their online privacy settings and legal format in order to avoid infringing the regulations. A company based in the United Kingdom offering services online to Brazilian citizens in Brazil will be penalised if they do not adhere to the new Internet Law (known as the ‘Marco Civil da Internet’).
