BOMAG’s RS500 on show for the first time in the UK at Plantworx

Launched at BAUMA in 2016 the 25 tonne BOMAG RS500 recycler/stabiliser will be on show for the first time in the UK at Plantworx in June. With a renewed emphasis on brown-field developments the UK market for recycling and stabilisation machines is hotting-up as the RS 500 sets new standards with its patented Movable Rotor System which allows the drum to be offset by 300mm at the flick of a switch. The fully moveable rotor housing allows off-set working, on either side of the machine, which allows the RS 500 to mill up to the marginal areas of a roadway.

Further innovations include BOMAG’s unique BRS 05 tool holder system which is specifically designed for recycling and FLEXMIX mixing technology that allows step less graduation of the materials being mixed, giving the best quality in the market.

Powered by a 380kW 6 cylinder Rolls Royce/MTU Stage 4 final engine the RS 500 has plenty of power to operate to a maximum depth of 500mm. Individual hydrostatic wheel motors provide maximum traction in all site conditions. The milling and mixing rotor is driven by 2 planetary gears supplying maximum torque and a continuously variable rotor speed reduces tool and rotor wear to a minimum. The BOMAG designed and manufactured drum has a width of 2,250mm and a diameter of 1,224mm. Driven by a hydrostatic motor the drum can rotate at between 100-180 rpm.

Although the RS 500 is new to the UK market this innovative machine has, since its launch, made an impact on the continent. An RS 500 working on the A39 Autobahn in Germany produced a daily output of 7,500m2 per day and another RS 500 working in France on the B87 federal road near Stadtilm stabilised 12,00m2 a day working at a 300mm depth. Maximum productivity working with lime in mixed soils is up to 20,000m2 a day at a depth of 200mm.

The RS 500 is not only a leader in performance as BOMAG’s designers have set new standards for visibility, safety and operator convenience.  The central, high-mounted ROPS/FOPS cab gives excellent all-round visibility and the seat, which can be rotated 270°, increases efficiency and reduces fatigue. Intuitive controls provide safety and convenience, even on long-shifts.

Finally, this large productive machine can be adjusted and folded to a reduced transport ‘cube’ of just 3.1m in height, 2.55m in width and 9.5m in length allowing the RS 500 to be transported on a large but standard low-loader. This makes the RS 500 ideal for highway work or on relatively confined inner-city brown-field sites.

The RS 500 is available now and is sold and supported directly by BOMAG (GB) who will be celebrating 50 years serving the UK market in June. The RS 500 will be on-show at Plantworx on stand C13 along with a selection of other BOMAG milling, paving and compaction products.
