An unusual situation, and theft recovery, has proved the toughness of the CanTrack Asset self-contained telematics unit after a stolen Bomag tandem-roller was recovered from a burnt-out Ford Transit in Humberside.
The Asset was fitted in the Bomag roller by the machine’s owners, a leading plant-hirer based in the Midlands. The Bomag was stolen overnight from a site in Thorne, adjacent to the M62 and M18 motorways. The plant-hirer reported the machine as stolen and CanTrack assigned one of their investigators to the job.
The Asset in the Bomag reported its location as being close to Humberside Airport, 30 miles from the theft site. The investigator travelled to the scene and reported the location to Humberside Police. By the time CanTrack’s investigator arrived the police had found the Ford Transit in a ditch and on fire! After the fire was put out and the van recovered the stolen Bomag, which had suffered considerable fire damage, was found in the back of the Transit. The CanTrack asset was found to be still sending its ‘homing signal’ and was working perfectly.
A spokeman for CanTrack said, “The moral of the story is twofold. If you want your stolen machine back, fit CanTrack! If you want your telematics device to be tough fit CanTrack!”
