British Steel starts recruiting for over 180 new employees to help drive business forward


British Steel  announced it is starting recruitment for over 180 new employees as it prepares
to ramp up production.


The company, which the UK Government oversees, has secured the raw materials to maintain a
two-blast furnace operation and will significantly increase iron and steel production in the coming months.

To support this, and British Steel’s drive towards a sustainable future, the company is advertising a wide
variety of professional, skilled, and non-skilled roles in Scunthorpe, Teesside and Skinningrove.
Opportunities range from engineering and environment to chemistry and cleaning, and from legal and
labouring to safety and stores.

To support recruitment, British Steel is hosting a recruitment open day on Saturday 17 May 2025. The
event will be staged at its Scunthorpe Conference Centre on Brigg Road between 10am-4pm, and
experts will showcase the wide range of career opportunities at British Steel and answer any questions
you may have.

Interim Chief Executive Officer, Allan Bell, said: “With the backing of the UK Government, we are
focused on cementing British Steel as one of the world’s leading manufacturers of steel. To help achieve
this, and meet customer demand, we will be upping production across all our sites and recruiting more
than 180 people to help drive us forward.

“These are exciting opportunities across our business, offering rewarding careers which will play
important roles in building stronger futures for our business and the UK economy.”
165 of the roles are in Scunthorpe, and 17 are at British Steel’s operations at Teesside and Skinningrove.

Among the positions currently available are:

• Engineering roles – electrical and mechanical
• Business functional roles – including commercial, legal, and occupational health
• Shift manufacturing operators – including at entry-level with training provided
• Shift and day craft – electrical, mechanical, and structural
• Technical / manufacturing roles – shift and managerial
