Engineering accreditation reinforces focus on future skills and technical talent

Following a number of recent developments from Hereford’s New Model Institute for Technology and Engineering (NMITE), including the launch of a new Autonomous Robotics degree, the university has now secured full accreditation from the Institution of Engineering and Technology for its BEng and MEng Integrated Engineering degrees.

The accreditation is a significant milestone for one of the UK’s newest engineering universities and comes at a time when many businesses across the construction equipment sector continue to raise concerns around skills shortages and the ongoing demand for qualified engineers and technical talent.

IET accreditation is recognised as one of the highest standards for engineering degrees in the UK and confirms that NMITE’s programmes meet the requirements set out by the Engineering Council under the UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK-SPEC). The accreditation also provides graduates with a recognised pathway towards Chartered Engineer status.

For employers, the announcement provides further evidence that alternative, hands-on approaches to engineering education are gaining industry recognition while continuing to deliver professional and academic standards.

This also adds further relevance to wider industry discussions around engineering skills, workforce development and future talent pipelines ahead of the upcoming CECE/CEA Congress, which will be hosted at the IET in London.

The CEA (Construction Equipment Association) will host the CECE Congress 2026 in London from 27 to 29 October, bringing together senior figures from across the European construction equipment sector.

Held at IET Savoy Place on the banks of the River Thames, the Congress will provide a forum for industry leaders to come together and discuss the key issues shaping the sector, from global market pressures and geopolitical challenges to innovation, skills and the future workforce.
