Bobcat's electric RogueX3 wins second Red Dot design award

CEA member Doosan Bobcat has secured a second Red Dot Award for its RogueX concept platform, with the fully electric, autonomous RogueX3 loader recognised for its innovative machine design and modular technology.

The Red Dot Award: Design Concept follows the success of RogueX2 in 2024 and recognises Bobcat's work exploring how electrification, automation and adaptable machine design could shape the next generation of construction equipment.

At the heart of RogueX3 is a patent-pending, rear-mounted linear actuator tilt system, which replaces conventional front hydraulic cylinders. According to Bobcat, the arrangement reduces the number of mechanical components by more than 50% compared with a typical compact loader, while improving forward visibility and simplifying maintenance requirements.

The concept also features a chassis-integrated battery and electric drivetrain, delivering zero exhaust emissions during operation. Positioning the battery within the chassis lowers the machine's centre of gravity and contributes to a more compact design.

One platform, multiple configurations

A key feature of RogueX3 is its modular architecture, allowing the machine to be adapted for different applications and operating environments.

The platform can accommodate wheeled or tracked configurations, cabbed or cabless operation, alternative lift-arm arrangements and different power systems.

Autonomous capabilities are supported by real-time kinematic positioning, GPS navigation, cameras and sensors. Operators can also control the machine remotely using Bobcat's MaxControl system through a compatible iOS device.

Bobcat is exploring further developments, including AI-enabled lighting systems that could communicate machine movements and operating status to people working nearby.

Joel Honeyman, Vice President of Global Innovation, Product Insights and Dealer Enablement at Bobcat, said:

"As customer needs evolve and jobsites become more connected, we believe equipment must become more adaptable. RogueX3 explores how a single machine platform could respond to those changing demands."

Exploring the future of compact equipment

Unveiled at CES 2026, RogueX3 has been developed through collaboration between Bobcat's Global Design Studio, innovation and engineering teams.

The machine remains a research and development concept and is not commercially available. Instead, it provides a platform for testing technologies that could eventually influence future production equipment.

The latest Red Dot recognition reflects the growing importance of electric drivetrains, autonomous systems and modular design as manufacturers investigate new approaches to construction equipment development.
