“Metal-first” mindset challenged as Nylacast appoints new CEO

Nylacast Group has appointed James Reeves as Chief Executive Officer as the engineered polymer manufacturer looks to accelerate its global growth.

Founded in Leicester in 1967, Nylacast produces precision engineered polymer solutions for demanding applications across industries including construction, transport, marine, energy, automotive and manufacturing.

James brings experience from advanced manufacturing, motorsport technology and high-growth engineering businesses, having held senior roles at Prodrive, voxeljet and Litecool. He is also a Chartered Engineer.

Nylacast Chairman Mussa Mahomed said:

“James brings a rare combination of technical credibility, commercial ambition and growth leadership. His appointment reflects our belief that Nylacast has outstanding capability and significant untapped potential.”

Nylacast believes many engineering decisions still begin with a “metal-first” assumption, despite engineered polymers offering benefits including reduced weight, lower friction, corrosion resistance, improved wear performance and reduced maintenance.

James Reeves said:

“Nylacast already has world-class technical capability, experienced people and products that perform in extremely demanding environments.

“The opportunity is to help more customers understand why engineered polymers should not simply be treated as an alternative, but in many cases as the best possible engineering solution.”

The company’s next phase will focus on strengthening customer engagement, building on its international manufacturing base and making its technical proposition clearer to global markets.

James added:

“Advanced manufacturing is not only about adopting the latest technology. It starts with asking better engineering questions about materials, design, maintenance and performance.

“My role is to help Nylacast turn its decades of knowledge into stronger growth and a clearer global proposition.”
