Safety Shield Global Human Form Recognition technology available factory-fit on selected Komatsu crawler excavators

Safety Shield Global’s Human Form Recognition technology is now available as a factory-fit option on selected Komatsu crawler excavators built in the UK.

Developed in collaboration with Komatsu, the system integrates Safety Shield Global’s AI-powered Human Form Recognition technology with the machine’s existing KomVision camera system and onboard controllers.

It is designed to identify people working around the excavator and provide operators with immediate visual and audible alerts when someone enters a defined risk zone. The factory-fit solution is calibrated and validated during production and is supplied with full Komatsu warranty and support.

The technology is available as an option on selected Komatsu crawler excavators, including the PC170-11, PC210-11, PC240-11, PC290-11, PC360-11, HB365-3 and PC490-11.

Simon Bailey, Head of Strategic OEM Integration at Safety Shield Global, said:

“This announcement represents a significant milestone in the evolution of safety technology for heavy equipment and industrial worksites.

“The integration of Safety Shield Global’s Human Form Recognition technology into a global OEM platform demonstrates the growing demand for intelligent, AI-powered solutions that help protect people working around heavy machinery.

“For Safety Shield Global, partnering with an industry giant such as Komatsu is a powerful endorsement of both our technology and our long-term vision. It reflects the industry’s increasing recognition that AI has an important role to play in reducing collision risks and improving site safety.

“With independently validated detection accuracy of 99.6%, our Human Form Recognition technology delivers the reliability, consistency and performance required for integration into some of the world’s most demanding operating environments.

“For customers, this collaboration provides a seamless route to advanced safety technology directly through the machine purchasing process. More importantly, it demonstrates how equipment manufacturers and technology innovators can work together to accelerate the adoption of intelligent safety systems, helping to create safer and more productive worksites.

“This partnership is an important step in our wider OEM integration strategy, bringing advanced Edge AI Human Form Recognition and object detection capabilities directly into machine platforms to support the next generation of collision avoidance and operator awareness solutions.”

Jonathan Guest, CEO of Safety Shield Global, added:

“This is a major moment for Safety Shield Global and for the wider adoption of intelligent safety technology across the construction equipment sector.

“Our mission has always been to help eliminate deaths and serious injuries in environments where people work alongside heavy machinery. By making Human Form Recognition technology available as a factory-fit option, Komatsu is giving customers a practical, fully integrated route to an additional layer of protection for operators, site teams and those working around the machine.”
