SPAL boosts thermal management range with energy efficient fans & coolant Pumps

SPAL Automotive has been a member of the CEA since 2018 which provides the ideal platform to promote its range of high-performance axial fans and centrifugal blowers designed for heavy duty applications and specifications.

Featuring on many of the world’s leading Original Equipment makers of construction and off-highway machines, SPAL fans have a long operating life, are robust and reliable, providing effective engine, oil, hydraulics and battery cooling; while the HVAC blowers keep the cab environment well-ventilated, and temperature controlled no matter how dusty and hot it is outside.

As the construction sector moves towards electrification, with EVs expected to grow at a CAGR of around 20 per cent by 2044, technological innovations are advancing the off-highway vehicle industry and SPAL has responded with its higher voltage more energy efficient brushless drive fans, blowers and the newly introduced coolant pump range.

Thermal management in particularly important in EV technology, particularly with heavy duty vehicles because of the unique demands of these rugged machines which push conventional cooling and heating systems to their limits.

Unlike ICE vehicles, which manage extreme temperatures with relative ease, EVs require precise thermal regulation to protect their sensitive electrical components, particularly the battery packs.

To maintain optimal performance, these battery packs function best within a narrow temperature range of approximately 20°C to 45°C.  Software driven and smart-controlled, SPAL’s brushless fans can deliver precise cooling when it is required and at the right intensity.

Brushless fans have a number of advantageous features for applications operating in specialised environments. The fully sealed motor units are impervious to dust and water ingress and spark-free with IP68 and IP6K9K protection making them ultra-safe in potentially volatile conditions such as in deep mines.  Additionally, some SPAL fans have a reversing facility to remove dirt from the workings, ideal for earthmoving vehicles which need to get on with the job.

SPAL also has high powered cooling for catalytic converters for off-highway plant to enable it to operate in Low Emission Zones in city centres, in line with Euro 6 regulations.
