A stolen portable pump, fitted with CanTrack’s Asset compact tracking device, was recovered from a garden after a chase to Doncaster.

The compact, tough, self-contained CanTrack Asset is a versatile device that can be used with a wide variety of construction equipment. Asset protects thousands of mini-excavators, site-dumpers and tandem vibrating rollers. On this occasion the detection and recovery were of a stolen portable pump.

The pump, owned by a leading hire company, was stolen from the Selby area. As soon as the theft was reported to CanTrack the Asset device was put into ‘recovery mode’. The Asset, hidden deep in the pump, soon reported its location as being in the Thorne area of Doncaster, around 20 miles from the theft site.

With the current location established CanTrack’s operations room assigned an experienced investigator to the case, who immediately set off for Doncaster. As the investigator made his way to Doncaster the Asset unit reported a new location in the Stainforth area.

When CanTrack’s investigator arrived in the area the Asset’s homing signal was detected and traced to a specific property. Following the set procedure, the investigator contacted South Yorkshire Police for assistance. As the investigator waited for police assistance, a discreet distance from the property, the Asset unit showed the stolen pump to be on the move. After a few minutes the unit showed a stop at a new location on Haigh Crescent, Stainforth, which was relayed to South Yorkshire Police. Subsequently, two police officers met CanTrack’s investigator on Haigh Crescent. The Asset’s strong signal was traced to the garden of a specific address. The police officers entered the premises and found the stolen pump next to dog kennel.

The pump was subsequently recovered by its owners. The police are continuing to make enquiries. On this occasion the equipment was out of the ordinary but the performance of the CanTrack Asset and the recovery process was all too familiar. The CanTrack Asset and investigations team maintain their impressive 94% + recovery rate.
