The Construction Index has published an article about the latest UK construction statistics published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS). This reports that output fell by 0.5% in October after showing 0.4% growth in September. In the three months to October, output has decreased by 0.3%. This came solely from a decrease in new work (2.0% fall), as repair & maintenance increased by 2.2% in the last three months.

In the first 10 months of the year to October, output is still 2.1% ahead of the previous 10 months, which continues to suggest that output for the full year will turn out to be more positive than recent forecasts which have been anticipating a decline of 6% to 7%. However, output growth this year has been due to repair and maintenance activity which is 7.5% up in the first 10 months of the year, while new work is showing a 1.2% decline so far.
