Nottinghamshire based A1 Demolition & Services, owned by renowned industry expert Craig Jackson, has recently invested £500K by adding a number of machines to their fleet to enable the business to grow in a new direction. These machines include a Hyundai R220LC-9A crawler excavator and a Hyundai HL770-9 wheeled loader, supplied by Derbyshire based EP Industries, alongside a Powerscreen Premiertrak 300R mobile crusher and Chieftain 1700 screen, supplied by Blue Machinery (Central) based in Cheshire.

A1 Demolition has recently joined forces with Cawarden Co Demo of Ockbrook and Craig Jackson is now its Commercial Development Director which adds a new string to the company’s bow in regard to the sustainability programme. Cawarden has over 30 years of experience in demolition, dismantling and asset recovery.

Setup five years ago to provide specialist consultancy in all areas of demolition across the UK, A1 Demolition & Services, have recently invested in mobile equipment as part of their long term growth strategy. With increasing pressures on all Demolition projects going forward to become more sustainable, A1 have found a niche to provide complete processing solutions for many of their contracts. By recovering and recycling aggregates onsite, A1’s clients can benefit from their new one pass production of sustainable aggregates to be reused in redevelopment and restoration projects.

Owner Craig Jackson’s visualisation was to offer a unique service for his customers and by processing onsite, A1’s operation saves the client significantly on haulage and extraction costs as well as on aggregate tax. This specialist operation is also in line with the Governments Construction 2025 vision where wider environmental considerations and sustainability will transform what we build and how we build it.

How projects come to market has a significant impact on the ability of the construction industry to provide innovative, value for money solutions – A1 Demolition can already offer these solutions with its turn-key operation.

Reducing carbon footprint by 50% is also in the Construction 2025 manifesto – by A1 recovering and recycling aggregates onsite and also using the latest innovations in construction machinery (Hyundai and Pegson), where reduced fuel consumption, lower emissions and  increased productivity are key features – the company is an industry ambassador.

Craig Jackson’s experience of the industry and his commitment to sustainability and the environment lead him to Hyundai “We did look at other machines on the market – but we had a Hyundai on demo and it outshone the others in both its performance and value for money.  Hyundai’s latest machines have strong environmental and safety credentials too which in building our business and moving it forward was crucial.”

Powering the R220LC-9A crawler excavator is a low emission, low noise, 157 hp Cummins Interim Tier 4/Stage IIIB, QSB6.7 engine. This engine is complemented by a patented VGT Turbocharger, which continuously varies the airflow boost to precisely match engine RPM and load demands for optimal performance.  The engine also features the Cummins Direct Flow™ air filter which delivers better performance with faster cycle times and improved fuel economy over previous models. The eco-friendly engine offers advanced electronic controls and a self-diagnostic system, both of which lead to reliable performance.

The R220LC-9A has an operating weight of 49,640 lbs., a maximum dig depth of 20’5” and a bucket breakout force of 29,980 lbs.

Powering the HL770-9A is the Cummins QSL9 engine which meets the stringent EPA Tier 4 Interim and EU Stage IIIB emissions standard with improved performance and wide-ranging power solution extending from 240-400 hp (179-298 kW).  The QSL9 will achieve up to 5 percent better fuel efficiency, lowering cost of operation and improving users bottom line.  The HL770-9 wheeled loader has an operating weight of 51,808 1bs.

“With years of experience in the Demolition industry, I am familiar with the equipment available on the market.” Craig continued, “With the new Powerscreen PT300 jaw crusher, I feel we have the most cutting edge jaw crusher available on the market today in terms of throughput, design and fuel efficiency and the machines compliment the Hyundai machines working well together as a team.”

The new Powerscreen Premiertrak 300R(PT300R) is high performance primary mobile jaw crusher, designed for medium scale demolition and recycling operations. The PT300R offers hydraulic crusher setting adjustment for complete and speedy control of product size and overload protection to prevent damage by foreign objects in the crushing chamber. The highly efficient Powerscreen Premiertrak 300 can run at low engine RPM giving excellent fuel consumption and low noise emissions which is beneficial in built up areas for demolition sites. Capable of up to 280tph production, the Premiertrak has been designed with maintenance accessibility in mind to minimise downtime. One of the features of the new machine includes the hydraulically lowering conveyor for excellent access to minimise downtime in the case of a blockage.

A1 Demolition is the perfect example of a forward thinking company with vision – as the business goes from strength to strength its future growth is more of a reality than a concept and its investment in quality construction machinery is certainly paying off.
