JCB hosts first workshop on barriers to hydrogen-fuelled earth-moving machinery

JCB will host the first in a series of interactive workshops exploring the barriers to placing hydrogen-fuelled earth-moving machinery on the market. The event, organised in collaboration with the CEA (Construction Equipment Association), will take place on Monday, 13 October 2025, at the JCB Visitor Centre in Rocester, Uttoxeter.

The aim of the workshop is for JCB to share knowledge and experiences from developing its own hydrogen-powered earth-moving machinery, highlighting the obstacles faced in bringing these machines to market. The day will be split into two sessions, with the morning focusing on earth-moving machinery standards and the afternoon dedicated to refuelling.

Guest speakers have been selected by JCB, with the CEA inviting its OEM members to attend. The workshop will also feature a round table discussion, giving delegates the chance to share their own experiences. A networking lunch and a walkaround of JCB’s hydrogen-fuelled machinery are also planned.

Viki Bell, CEO of the CEA, said:
“Hydrogen is a vital part of the conversation about decarbonising construction equipment. By working together and openly sharing experiences, we can begin to tackle the hurdles that stand in the way of getting hydrogen machinery into the market. This workshop, hosted by JCB but held under the CEA umbrella, brings together many of our OEM members to start that process. It is the first step in what we hope will become a continuing series, with other manufacturers also sharing their journey.”
