DIG VR, the innovative and realistic light-simulation virtual reality Meta Quest game to bridge the skills shortage in the construction industry targeting a younger and diverse generation of workers...
The Labour Party pledged in its manifesto to build 1.5 million new homes over the next 5 years if it got into power. However, according to a new survey by DIG VR, two thirds say newly built homes and their payment structures are unrealistic. Furthermore, almost three quarters (72%) believe the government target of 1.5 million new homes is unachievable.
Video game publisher Wired Productions and award-winning developer Just Add Water have created an authentic and immersive light-simulation VR excavator game with realistic controls for the Meta Quest VR headset, DIG VR.
By leveraging the power of virtual reality, the realistic controls and manoeuvrability in the game can be used as an introduction and tool to create a love of excavating, encouraging, and inspiring a younger and diverse generation of workers in a realistic yet fun, safe and cost-effective entry to the construction industry. With the concerns around the shortage of skilled workers, DIG VR will help bridge the gap for excavator operators and lift a barrier to entry for a varied demographic.
To show the public's confidence in new-build homes, 2 in 5 (40%) said they would rather buy an existing house than a new-build. Furthermore, almost three-quarters (72%) believe the government target of 1.5 million new homes is unachievable.
Nearly half cited an unrealistic time frame as the reason for this. However, over a third (34%) don’t believe we have enough skilled workers in the UK.
Over 20 million Meta Quest headsets have been sold globally, and the market allows many people to try operating an excavator from the comfort of their homes.
